2K membrane system for PUR foam

2K membrane system for PUR foam

The technology in short

In case of two-component foam cans, the main challenges are short shelf life and residue forming inside the bottle. In standard containers, the two components often mix and the chemical reaction may be completed, thus the foam can no longer be used. When a can has been used once, it only remains usable for 9-12 months on average, that results in a highly polluting packaging. As a solution we have developed the MIKA 2k membrane system. It includes the complete redesign for the internal structure of two-component aerosols and the seal.

Our solution

After a series of experiments and testings our engineers have developed two solutions, the piston mixing and membrane system. In both systems the two components only mix when the system is activated. The sealed material is fitted with a release button at the bottom of the bottle, which only allows mixing when the can is open.

We have also extended the shelf life to 24 months, with the combination of MIKA-Vent rubberless aerosol valve and the 2-k membrane system. It therefore provides a more environmentally friendly solution and produces less waste.

Endless areas of application

Our solution can be beneficial in various areas of applications. We have developed custom solutions for cosmetic manufacturers, for example, hair dyes also face the challenge as they consist of two components, the developer and the colour. Our “can in can” solution provides effortless dispensing and easy brand identification as well.

Bag on valve technology

Bag on valve technology

The technology in short

The Bag On Valve is a barrier packaging technology for liquid or viscous products – also used in shaving gels. The viscous content is completely separated from the eco-friendly air or nitrogen propellant. This type of separation guarantees purity of the media and allows for using in any type of cans (aluminium, steel etc.).

The packaging bag consist of multilayer film which is welded to a plastic spout connected to the valve. Once the valve has been crimped, compressed air or nitrogen is filled into the area between the bag and can.

The multilayer laminate bags allow a perfect barrier which eliminates the possibility of oxidation. The product is hermetic sealed within the bag, total product integrity protection. Bag on valve technology not only provides a hygienic and sterilizable solution, but it is also very useful since non-flammable propellants are used that are non-explosive and inhalation does not cause any issues.

Our solution

Mikropakk’s Bag On Valve solution has been named BOYV (Bag On Your Valve). BOYV can be used with standard actuators of aerosol cans, as well.

BOYV is the most environmentally friendly aerosol system, offering a green alternative to standard aerosols.

BOYV have 3 connection-types between the Ship-shape part and the Valve/Gehäuse:

  • Connection by Ultrasonic welding
  • Connection by snap-fit joint with O-ring sealing
  • Connection by snap-fit joint with TPE (2K) sealing

Because of this fact there are 3 Ship-shape and 2 Gehäuse designs. The difference between the parts is relatively small.

Our Bag On Valve solution can be combined with our patented RF-09 valve or any custom designed valves. Currently, a new valve featuring an opening of a larger diameter is under development, providing an increased outflow volume.

BOYV can be filled through the valve conventionally or through the ship-shape part which has a number of benefits:

  • The valve remains clean,
  • The filling process is faster,
  • Propellent can be filled under the cap,
  • There’s no need for a can with bottom punching.

Endless areas of application

From cheese sauce to PUR foam, bag on valve technology can be leveraged by a variety of industries for several use cases: construction and food industries or FMCG for different household products – any use case where contents of the bag are between 100 ml and 300 ml. Most fluids and viscous products can be filled in a BOV system, whose viscosity is low enough to allow passage through the valve stem. Among other it provides a viable dosing solution for:

  • Cosmetics such as creams, self-tanning sprays, lotions,
  • Pharmaceuticals and OTC such as wound washes, ear washes, eye washes, first aid sprays,
  • Food such as cooking oils, liquid flavourings, salad dressing, ketchup.

In case of PUR foam, a special applicator is needed for dispensing.

Roof structure support clip

Roof structure support clip

It might not be an intuitive use case, but injection moulding can benefit the construction industry, as well. These metal support clips are used to hold the roof structure in place. However, on their own the metal would cause thermal bridges in the roof, not only affecting the energy efficiency of the building, but also decreasing the building’s life span.

To avoid thermal bridging, we came up with a unique solution: metal parts – also manufactured by Mikropakk – receive an injection moulded plastic coating, which is known as insert moulding or overmoulding. The plastic coating improves the metal insert’s insulation properties without a significant increase in weight while the part keeps its strength.

Our roof structure support clips have been used at various major construction sites from Brazil to Singapore.

Gas cylinder holders

Gas cylinder holders

Gas cylinder holders by Mikropakk represent a truly unique solution on the premium segment of grill gas cylinders. In Western Europe, grill gas cylinders get reused and re-filled, therefore, a design that serves long-term usage is critical.

These custom-designed handles provide a more ergonomical solution while being aesthetically pleasing and functional. Should the cylinder be accidentally dropped, the handle withstands the mechanical stress and protects the cylinder.

Mikropakk’s gas cylinder holders are TÜV certified.

We manufacture various models of gas cylinder holders in different sizes for the premium hobby grill segment.
